McGhee Elementary kicked off their PTA Penny War, and they're off to a great start!
Pennies count as positive points, while silver coins and dollar bills count as negative points. The competition is on to see which class comes out on top at the end of the week!

Nominations are now open for the 2025-2026 Educational Support Personnel (ESP) of the Year Award!
Don’t miss your chance to nominate that exceptional employee who provides critical support to our educational services and recognize them for their outstanding performance! Educational Support Personnel are vital to the ultimate success of student learning. That person may be the food service worker who serves food with a smile, the custodian who works tirelessly to ensure a clean and safe working environment, the maintenance worker who goes above and beyond to expertly maintain our facilities and grounds; the instructional assistant who helps kids get excited about learning and to see their potential; or the administrative support staff who has a positive outlook and rapport with students and staff. All of our support staff serve to support our students in achieving their potential.
Fellow staff members, school district employees, parents, students and the general public are encouraged to complete and return a nomination form for this year’s ESP of the Year award winner! Hard copy nomination forms are available on the district website, at each school and at the Central Services Office (3317 12th Street), or complete the online form:

This month at Whitman Elementary, students spent time in the library talking about kindness and empathy. They shared what kindness looks like to them by creating individual quilt squares filled with thoughtful words, drawings, and ideas. Those squares were then brought together to create a Kindness Quilt.

Lewiston High School students from Mr. Slickpoo’s Nez Perce Language classes recently visited the headquarters of Nez Perce National Historical Park in Spalding, Idaho, for a day of learning, culture, and connection.
Students were welcomed by National Park Service rangers and staff, watched a film in the visitor center auditorium, and learned about Nez Perce canoe traditions from Park Service staff member Jared Wicks. They also explored the Wetxuwíitin Collection through a presentation by Harry H. Slickpoo Jr., viewed exhibits, and visited the vault and archives with curator Kristine Leier.
Following the visit, Nez Perce Language 1 and 2 students shared their final project presentations with those in attendance. Projects ranged from housing label projects and interviews with elders to beadwork, Nez Perce history, legends, music, the lifecycle of the Chinook salmon, and even a special performance of “What a Wonderful World” translated into the Nez Perce language.
A meaningful day honoring language, history, and student voice.
