Camelot Parents Letter – September 2023

September 2023

Dear Camelot Parents,

Thank you for your attendance at parent meetings the last few weeks!  It was so great to see all of you!

We know that it takes a team of people to work together to help all of our students have a great year.  Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.  My email address is KCarper@lewistonschools.net and the school phone number is 748-3500.

We are off to a great start!  We do a lot of testing in the fall to see where our students need to grow this year.  I am proud to report that our students in grades 1-3 tested very well on the Idaho Reading Indicator, (IRI).  Typically, scores are lower in the fall.  Our second and third grade tested at 78% proficient and first grade tested at 85% proficient!  Thank you for all your hard work with reading that you did over the summer!  Keep Reading!

Students at Camelot have been working on transitions between classrooms, in from recess and to specials.  They have been lining up and walking in the same direction!  We had a contest the last two weeks and our 2nd and 3rd graders earned an ice cream treat!  Way to go!

We have a lot of exciting events coming up for Camelot students.  The fair is this week and kids from grades 2 & 3 are excited to attend the exhibits.  Radical Rick will be here on Thursday, September 28th, sponsored by the Camelot PTA.  Kids love seeing his fun science experiments!  We will have a family event from Radical Rick at Camelot that evening at 6:00.

Our first PTA meeting will be on September 19th at Hot Shots Cafe beginning at 6:30!  It takes a collaborative relationship between parents, school and our PTA works really hard for our school.  Please attend!

Our first Early Release is Wednesday, September 20th.  Students are dismissed at 1:40 that day.  We are very fortunate to have time for our learning during this time.  We know students learn more when adults learn more. Staff does leave campus during this time so all students need to be picked up due to no supervision after school.

Conferences will be happening very soon on October 4th and 5th.  Due to conferences, there is no school for students on these days.  October 6th is Fall Break and also no school.

Want to be more involved?  We are looking for parents to serve on district committees:  Strategic Planning, Censorship, and Facility Planning..  Please let me know asap if you are interested!

I hope this school year has started well for you and your children.  They truly are amazing kids!

Keep it REAL (Respect, Effort, Attitude and Leadership)!

Thank you for being part of our Camelot family!

Karla Carper, Principal
