Mr. Kuehner– Teaching with purpose
by Isabelle Feucht
If you were to stroll into Mr. Kuehner's classroom, you would see a group of students who say it's relaxed and one of their favorite classes of the day. Mr. Khuener is a laid-back and hardly strict teacher who hopes people walk out of his class and feel like they are pushing themselves to be their very best. Mr. Kuehner teaches world geography at Sacajawea Middle School and is a favorite teacher of many. He is very funny, and all of his students always laugh in his classroom.
“I hope that they feel like they are pushing themselves and are trying to be their best selves,” he said, carefully considering how he wants students to feel in his classroom. He wants his students to feel like they are always getting better and always trying to be their best selves.
“Teaching is a process that never ends, you are always learning something new from 7th graders,” Mr.Kuehner had said. He views teaching as an experience to learn from his students; his favorite part of teaching is learning new things from the amazing students he teaches.
His student Jane Dees, who is part of his 6th hour, says, “He’s patient and helps you with work you are struggling with, and he will make sure you understand the topic before he moves on.”
For Mr. Kuehner, teaching 7th graders is a new adventure every day, and he wants to make his students feel their very best in his classroom. He understands all of his students and tries to see from their perspective.
Mr. Kuehner chose to teach geography because of a teacher he had in 6th grade, and ever since then, he said he always dreamed of taking the same path as his teacher; teaching was the best choice he ever made career-wise. He loves working with the amazing adults and teaching the students.
Mr. Kuehner has been teaching for nine years now. He loves every second of it and hopes that all his students learn and feel like they are getting better in his classroom. His goal for students is to get 70% on the ELA ISAT. His second goal is for people to understand that there are good people in the world.
Mr. Kuehner enjoys his life as a teacher and will work for many more years as Sacajawea’s favorite teacher. At the end of the day, it’s just Mr. Kuehner and his students against the world.
