My Passion for Foursquare I have always had a deep affection for the game of foursquare. In my view, schools should definitely host foursquare tournaments. This thrilling game requires quickness of both hands and feet, making it an exciting challenge. With numerous rules and variations, it can sometimes feel a bit unfair, especially when you get out—how frustrating! At Centennial Elementary, the intensity of the games is palpable. Students have the chance to hone their debating skills while learning the art of compromise. During recess, children of all ages eagerly join in on this competitive game. The variations seem endless, and while there are written rules, checking out YouTube can be a great starting point. Throughout the day, you might find about ten players waiting for their chance to ascend to the coveted number one spot, “The Server”—the top dog. Staff members passing by often get drawn into the action, only to discover that they can be eliminated within seconds, even after waiting for minutes to join. Regardless of which version you encounter, it's crucial to know if there are spinners, atom bombs, or carries in play. Foursquare is a fun game that restarts quickly; you might win some, and you might lose others. Being a good sport is key! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAsMYsMdy54&t=353s

This year's Educational Support Professional is the remarkable Tasha Carper, known as Centennial's finest. As our Interventionist, she plays a crucial role in supporting both students and teachers. The significance of her work is truly the foundation of our educational environment. Tasha teaches students various ways to navigate the structure of our classroom expectations. She addresses behaviors that students may not even recognize, helping them calm down, understand their thoughts, and listen to their concerns while suggesting alternative ways to cope with anger, sadness, and anxiety. Tasha builds trust, and her patience is her superpower. She holds students accountable for their actions, guiding them to take responsibility over time. The special bond she forms with her students offers the extra support needed to help them through challenging days for various reasons. She collaborates with staff to develop solutions that ensure a more positive and successful school experience for everyone. Although her role can be difficult and exhausting from an outsider's perspective, Tasha brings her positivity every day. The success of an interventionist relies on the support from our staff, just as staff depend on the support of our interventionist; it is undoubtedly a two-way street. Centennial Elementary is incredibly proud of Tasha and values her as the backbone of our team. In the accompanying picture, Tasha shares a special moment with a student. Many such moments occur daily at Centennial, and I am honored to share this one with you.

In the Lewiston School District, schools conduct spelling bees annually in grades 4-8, starting at the classroom level and progressing to school-wide competitions. Students in grades 4 participate in the elementary school bees. Winners of school bees in grades 4-8 then compete in the regional spelling bee. In March, 4th Grader Piper Hall was the champion at Centennial Elementary. Piper is an excellent student and a role model for her peers. When asked about her experience and what was the key to her success, she said, “I studied a lot with my mom.” Piper has a bright future and someday she would like to be a zookeeper.
