Battle of Books

The Battle of the Books

Every year, our school hosts an exciting competition for our 4th and 5th grade students. This event, known as the "Battle of the Books," challenges young readers to expand their horizons by engaging with a diverse selection of literature. The students are tasked with reading 16 books, each representing a different genre, ensuring they encounter a wide range of storytelling styles and perspectives.

The Competition Structure

The competition takes place over several weeks, with students forming teams to collaborate and prepare for the challenges ahead. Dorinda and I, as the organizers, have the pleasure of hosting the initial rounds during lunch breaks every Wednesday. These lunchtime battles are filled with enthusiasm and friendly rivalry, as teams vie for the chance to advance to the next stage of the competition.

Advancing to the District Battle

After weeks of spirited competition, the top-performing teams earn the opportunity to represent our school at the district-level battle. This prestigious event was held this past Saturday at the local high school, where teams from various schools gathered to showcase their literary knowledge and teamwork skills.

Centennial's Champions

This year, we were thrilled to see Logan and Riley's team, The Book Hoppers, emerge as the sole representatives from Centennial to qualify for the district battle. Their dedication and love for reading shone through as they tackled each challenge with confidence and creativity.

Celebrating a Love for Reading

The Battle of the Books is more than just a competition—it's a celebration of reading. It encourages students to explore new genres, engage in thoughtful discussions, and develop a lifelong passion for literature. We are incredibly proud of all our participants and look forward to continuing this tradition for many years to come.
