I am so excited to be your new Principal at Whitman Elementary! GO CUBS! This is my 15th year in education and I have held various positions including School Psychologist, School Counselor, and most recently, Special Services  Director for the Lewiston School District.

One of the most important things to me is family. My wife, Joann and I have been married for 18 years and are blessed with four children. My sons: Jimmy, 17 years old and a Junior at LHS; Jordan, 15 years old and a Sophomore at LHS.  My daughters: Aubry, 13 years old and an 8th grader at Sacajawea Middle School and Annabelle, 9 years old and a 4th grader at McSorley Elementary. When I’m not at school, I am hanging out with my family, enjoying movie nights, playing basketball, attending cross country meets, ballet performances, and various other activities. I also enjoy regular exercise and am a diehard Portland Trailblazer fan.

At my core, I believe in the power of building relationships, making lasting connections and I have a big heart for kids.  As an instructional leader at Whitman Elementary, I look forward to working collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and the community. It has been awesome getting to know you and your students this first week!

I am kicking off my leadership with “The 60-day Family Connection Challenge.” In the first 60 school days, I plan to visit the home of every family in our school in the evenings and some weekends. I will reinforce the mission and vision of Whitman Elementary and our focus to help all students learn at high levels.  I believe it is imperative that we help all our kids thrive and be committed to working together to have a culture of learning and partnership. We are the “Whitman Cubs Family” and I look forward to getting to know you better as I visit your homes.  I am excited for a great year!

Sincerely,

Travis Poulsen
