Computer Science Education Week – Bringing Hour of Code to Idaho: December 3 – 7, 2018
Computer science provides a foundation for virtually any career. It’s the art of blending human ideas and digital tools. Computer scientists work in so many different areas: writing apps for phones, curing diseases, creating animated movies, working on social media, building robots that explore other planets and so much more. That’s why Idaho Digital Learning, STEM Action Center, the Idaho Technology Council, the Micron Foundation, and Idaho National Laboratory are challenging all Idaho students, teachers and parents to an “Hour of Code.”
Do something fun and rewarding and participate in an “Hour of Code” through one of the fun tutorials. Oh and by the way…all participants are eligible to WIN AN iPAD MINI or an Amazon Gift Card compliments of Idaho Digital Learning and the STEM Action Center!
What is an Hour of Code? It’s a one-hour introduction to computer science where anyone can learn the basics. Check out the Hour of Code website at http://hourofcode.org/.
Every Idaho student, teacher, parent, and others who completes an “Hour of Code” through Code.org may enter into a drawing to win a $50 Amazon gift card or an iPad mini! There will be four (4) gift card winners chosen across four categories; PreK-5th grade, 6th-8th grade, 9th-12th grade and Adult category (Administrator, Teacher or Parent) and one (1) grand prize winner of an iPad Mini chosen from all categories. Enter to win HERE.
“The goal of the Hour of Code is not to teach anybody to become an expert computer scientist in one hour. One hour is only enough to learn that computer science is fun and creative, that it is accessible at all ages, for all students, regardless of background. Millions of the participating teachers and students have decided to go beyond one hour – to learn for a whole day or a whole week or longer, and many students have decided to enroll in an entire course (or even a college major) as a result.” – code.org
As you participate and complete the Hour of Code let everyone know by using: #hourofcodeID
Everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer because it teaches you how to think. – Steve Jobs
