Hello Mrs.Blake we are fifth graders asking you some questions for the school newspaper.
How are you?
I am very fine! Thank you for asking. I hope you are doing well and loving 5th grade!
What is the difference from third grade to second grade?
I don’t really notice a huge difference between second and third grade as far as the students go. I have a really nice class who work very hard. They are very helpful and kind to one another.
The topics that we learn about are very different. For example in math our focus is addition and subtraction, as well as 1 -2 step word problems. In reading, we are perfecting our reading skills and “reading to learn” instead of learning to read. We are also working on reading endurance – the ability to read for longer periods of time (chapter books).
It’s been a fun year so far.
Do you still do literature?
We still have literature at the end of the day – but only for 10 minutes or so. Much less time than when you were in third grade. We are on our second book for the year. We read Charlotte’s Web and now we are reading Because of Winn Dixie.
What is your favorite subject?
I love teaching all subjects just because I get to work with my students and have fun. But if I have to choose a favorite, I think it would have to be science. I love having the chance to help students come up with questions and create experiments and observations to help answer their questions. I miss Crayfish!!
