Why are boundaries being reviewed?
The District has seen population shifts and changes in enrollment that have necessitated a review of elementary school boundaries to ensure balanced class sizes and equitable access to school facilities across the District.
When will the proposed boundaries be finalized?
The school district’s Board of Directors is scheduled to review the workgroup and community input at the regularly scheduled work session on January 27, 2025. The Board will take action on the proposed boundary revisions at the regular board meeting on February 10, 2025.
Parents will be notified of boundary changes and school placement after the February 10, 2025, Board Meeting. Communication will be made via USPS, social media posts, and school messenger.
When do we let the school district know if we want to transfer to our new school or stay at our current school?
A placement letter will be sent to all families once the Board of Directors has taken action on the proposed boundary revisions. The letter will include the timeline for families to return their school placement preference.
If I am impacted by the change in boundaries, will my student(s) be allowed to remain at the school they were enrolled for the 2024-25 school year?
Students who are currently enrolled in the 2024-2025 school year will have the option to stay at their current school for the remainder of their elementary career.
New students to the District will be placed based on the revised boundaries. Siblings who will be starting their education with the District beginning the 2025-2026 school year, will be placed in the school based on the revised boundaries.
How do the new boundaries impact students who are on open enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year?
The open enrollment process will not change. Parents are required to fill out an open enrollment application (initial open enrollment application) or letter of intent (2nd year of open enrollment).
February 1, 2025, is the date on which open enrollment applications need to be submitted, however, applications will be accepted after that date.
Open enrollment applications are date-stamped and will be considered based on the order in which they are received.
For more information regarding open enrollment, please refer to Independent School District No. 1’s Rules and Regulations Choose “Policies” 5070.9 for Open Enrollment or 5070.8 for Out-of-District Enrollment.
